I was recommended to approach Dr. Hermann in 2008 from my Gynecologist in Zurich after having 2 miscarriages (from spontaneous pregnancies) and a failed IVF attempt in Zurich. My husband and I had been trying for a baby since my mid 30s. The IVF attempt in Zurich was with a doctor who unfortunately made the whole experience painful and unpleasant and in my view professionally unethical, which my husband and I did not want to repeat again.

My husband and I met with Dr Hermann in Zurich for an initial consultation and it was recommended that we both have checks to see that we were ok physically for pregnancy. These checks turned out ok and also we adjusted our diet on Dr. Hermann’s recommendation for antioxidants etc. We then decided with Dr. Hermann to try an IVF attempt in Alicante in Q3 2008. This was altogether a much more positive and pleasant experience, in that the treatment is done in tune with the woman’s cycle and also the support from Dr. Hermann was always there for any consultation, prescription of medication and advise. The center in Alicante (Instituto Bernabeu) was professional and the treatment painless and private. The result of this IVF treatment was a pregnancy but unfortunately again this resulted again in a miscarriage. After this third miscarriage Dr. Hermann escalated the investigation into the causes of this with the advise of Dr. Gleicher from the Human Center of Reproduction in New York. This resulted in further genetic and blood testing, where APA seemed to be a cause and I also started with the DHEA treatment from New York. In early 2009 we went to New York for another attempt at an IVF cycle. I found the team in New York professional but different in the way that the doctors do consult patients in Europe. But any concerns I had I discussed with Dr. Hermann and he was immediately responsive as was the team at the clinic in New York. They were very thorough at the Clinic and I learnt a lot in the way the treatment is done there. The were also responsive and supportive to any queries I had. Unfortunately the attempt at the IVF in New York in Feb 2009 wasn’t successful, but I continued with the DHEA regardless for a preparation for another attempt at IVF. What really helped after the New York experience was that Dr. Hermann was constantly in touch with us (meeting in Zurich) and also positive about having another try, he also recommended that I see an endocrinologist to check with my thyroid and general health. My husband and I decided to take a few months break then try again. During the break, we became pregnant naturally, which I believe was the result of having my hormones in check and also the usage of the DHEA. As soon as I became pregnant I contacted Dr. Hermann for advise on the protocol on how to proceed and what medications to take to aid the pregnancy, i.e., use of Heparin, aspirin and steroids etc. Luckily my gynecologist in Zurich was very accommodating in following the protocol that Dr. Hermann suggested. The end result became a healthy baby boy born in March 2010. Which makes us very happy and very much worth all the effort.
